RANZCOG ASM 2017

WELCOME

Kia ora koutou

Greetings, hello to you all,

We are really excited to be hosting the RANZCOG 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting (RANZCOG 2017 ASM) on 29 October – 1 November 2017 at the SKYCITY Convention Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

The theme, View from the Top, is inspired by Auckland’s natural volcanic landscape, with Rangitoto Island, a distinctive cone, dominating the Hauraki Gulf. The meeting venue boasts the tallest manmade structure in New Zealand, the Sky Tower, a 328-metre landmark that affords spectacular views over Auckland city and harbour.

The Scientific Committee is planning a top-notch meeting, with plenary sessions, concurrent streams, a debate and interactive workshops and daily breakfast sessions. The aim is to put science back on the program: a View from the Top will examine using cutting-edge research to help us to conquer clinical challenges.

The venue for the conference dinner is the Auckland War Memorial Museum in the Domain, an extinct volcanic crater that is our oldest and largest city park. The Museum holds more than 1000 Māori treasures (taonga Māori) and has stunning views of across Auckland.

“The city of sails” has many other top attractions: two magnificent harbours and numerous islands that are home to vineyards, wildlife sanctuaries and beaches. For adrenaline seekers, consider a guided harbour bridge climb, SkyJump a 192-metre plunge from the Sky Tower, or SkyWalk hands-free around the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere. For the less adventurous, there are several historic inner city suburbs worth exploring – Ponsonby, Mount Eden, Newmarket, Parnell and Mission Bay, to mention a few.

Post-conference, visit New Zealand’s magnificent natural environment; it has 14 diverse national parks and geothermal areas abound in the North Island in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty and Taupo. Queenstown in the South Island, famous for its stunning natural beauty, is a lively and exciting destination. There are more than eight direct flights a day from Auckland to Queenstown and flights from Queenstown to many Australian destinations.

So, please, cross the ditch to join us in Auckland for the RANZCOG 2017 ASM and experience the highlights of our diverse country Aotearoa!
